Saigon Transportation Mechanical Corporation (SAMCO), a state-owned enterprise in Ho Chi Minh City, opened a 2,765-square-meter dealership for VinFast electric cars in Binh Tan District on Saturday.

Featuring an 805-square-meter showroom and a 1,960-square-meter service workshop, the dealership is equipped with modern facilities and staffed by a professional team to meet customers' needs for purchasing, repairing, and maintaining electric vehicles.

In its first year, the dealership looks to sell 264 cars and handle over 12,000 service requests.

It also aims for a 10-percent annual increase in auto sales and a five-percent growth rate in services.

With 10-12 onsite charging stations, the dealership offers its customers convenient access to advanced technology and smart features of VinFast electric cars.

A VinFast representative said that the partnership marks a significant milestone for both companies and a key event for the electric vehicle community in the southern metropolis.

This partnership is also part of VinFast's strategy to bring smart, safe, and eco-friendly electric vehicles closer to city dwellers.

Pham Quoc Huy, chairman of SAMCO, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that the launch of the VinFast-SAMCO Binh Tan dealership aims not only to introduce Vietnam's first electric vehicles but also to promote sustainable development by reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

Huy unveiled SAMCO’s plan to explore the assembly and production of electric buses and electric cars for tourism in the near future.

The chairman noted that SAMCO’s electric vehicles will not compete directly with VinFast’s offerings.

Established in 2004, SAMCO is headquartered in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City and is under the ownership of the municipal People's Committee.

As of June this year, the company had invested in 16 joint ventures and affiliates, including Mercedes-Benz Vietnam.

Mercedes-Benz Vietnam is a joint venture between SAMCO, which owns a 30-percent stake, and Mercedes-Benz AG Group, which holds the remaining 70 percent.

SAMCO operates dealerships for major auto brands like Lexus, Toyota, Isuzu, Mitsubishi, Nissan, and others.
