Japan Airlines, the second most punctual airline in Asia-Pacific, wants to utilize its punctuality to increase its market share in Vietnam, said a representative of the carrier.
During a ceremony last weekend to celebrate 30 years of the Ho Chi Minh City - Japan air route, Takahiro Miyagi, managing director of the regional sales office of Japan Airlines in Vietnam, said since the first flight from Osaka to Ho Chi Minh City on November 16, 1994, the carrier has become a bridge to boost economic, cultural, and tourism exchanges between Vietnam and Japan.
In 2019, the airline served a record number of passengers thanks to the expansion of its flight network to 199 destinations in 66 countries and territories and the improvement of services.
In 2023, Japan Airlines recovered from the COVID-19 pandemic and its passenger number reached 135 percent of the pre-pandemic figure.
The recovery of the Vietnamese market signifies the growing international travel demand among Vietnamese passengers and the airline's commitment to enhancing services, punctuality, and flight safet, said Miyagi.
He also asserted Japan Airlines' dedication to strengthening trade and tourism ties between the two countries.
Japan Airlines currently operates two flights from Ho Chi Minh City and a flight from Hanoi to Japan per day.
It ranks second among the most punctual airlines in the Asia-Pacific region, according to Cirium, a trusted source of aviation analytics.
More than 461,000 Japanese passengers entered Vietnam in January-August this year, equivalent to 79 percent of that in 2023.
The weakness of the Japanese yen has resulted in Japanese people reducing trips abroad, sending the number of Japanese tourists to Vietnam down.
However, Japan remains among the 10 largest source markets of Vietnam’s tourism, according to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism.
