All seven members of the Vietnamese team competing at the 2024 Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad won medals, including one gold and six silvers, the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training announced on Friday.
The gold medal was secured by Pham Cong Minh, a 12th grader from High School for Gifted Students of the University of Science under the Vietnam National University-Hanoi.
The six silver medals went to five students of this school and another student of Tran Phu High School for Gifted Students in Hai Phong City, northern Vietnam.
Vietnam ranked sixth among 35 participating countries and territories, following China, Russia, Japan, South Korea, and Hong Kong.
The 18th Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad was held in China with 286 contestants participating in the assessment for medals.
Fifteen Vietnamese students competed online at the University of Engineering and Technology under the Vietnam National University-Hanoi.
Seven contestants with the highest scores were chosen for prize consideration, according to regulations of the competition.
At the competition in 2023, Vietnamese students bagged four silvers and three bronzes.
