The Al-Nafūd desert in Al-Jawf, Saudi Arabia experienced its first-ever recorded snowfall on Sunday last week, transforming the arid desert landscape into a breathtaking winter wonderland.

This unprecedented phenomenon followed intense rain and hail storms that swept across the kingdom, according to NDTV World

The unusual condition reduced visibility and disrupted travel in the Saudi Arabian desert.

People have been posting videos and pictures of the snow-covered desert on social media which have captured the attention of viewers all across the world, according to The Indian Express.

A user named Nurlan Mededov tweeted on X, “This is the first time in history that the desert has been covered in snow, as temperatures there rarely drop to such levels.”

Another user wrote, “First time in history Saudi Arabian desert turns into winter wonderland after first-ever snowfall.”

User Koushik Rudra observed, “In a remarkable turn of events, Saudi Arabia witnessed spells of heavy rain and snowfall for the first time in history. If reports are to go by, the Al-Jawf region experienced heavy snowfall recently, creating a winter wonderland in a country typically known for its arid climate.”

After social media exploded with photos and videos of the phenomenon, everyone started talking about climate change and put forward their views in the comments section.

One user remarked, “Not a good sign, mother nature is changing its colours.”

The UAE's National Center of Meteorology has attributed the recent snowfall in the region to a low-pressure system originating from the Arabian Sea and extending to Oman.

This weather pattern brought moisture-laden air into the typically arid area, resulting in a significant shift in weather conditions.

Consequently, thunderstorms, hail, and rainfall swept across Saudi Arabia and the UAE, defying the region's characteristic dryness and causing unprecedented weather events.

As for the aftermath, Saudi Arabia's weather department is advising residents to prepare for more thunderstorms, hail, and strong winds, according to CNBC TV18.

Officials also urged residents to exercise caution and take necessary precautions due to the unusual weather.
