Amazing Thailand Grand Sale to kick off this weekend

The 2013 Amazing Thailand Grand Sale, the country’s largest annual tourism promotional program, will kick off this weekend with a number of featured activities, the organizers announced on Wednesday.

The event will be running from June 15 to August 15, during which more than 15,000 top retail vendors will offer privileges and discounts up to 80 percent to tourists to in seven areas in the country, the Tourism Authority of Thailand said.

The areas include Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Hat Yai, Phuket, Pattaya, Hua Hin and Koh Samui.

Amazing Thailand Grand Sale will feature a special promotion from AirAsia, which will allow visitors from Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to fly to Bangkok at special prices.

Specifically, one-way ticket starts from $60 (VND1.25 million), including airport tax.

Foreign tourists can also enjoy preferential airfares starting from $27 for flights within Thailand.

Booking is available from now until June 23 for flights from June 15 to August 15.

Another special program under the grand sale event is the Amazing 30 Days in Thailand campaign, which will offer foreign travelers with a chance to spend up to 30 days traveling Thailand as well as receive prizes with a combined value of 3.5 million THB (over $114,000).

Thai travelers can also vie for shopping vouchers with a combined value of over 1 million THB (more than $32,500), simply by spending 500 THB ($16) at any of the participating shops and department stores and filling out a campaign card with their name and telephone number.

Thailand welcomed more than 3.6 million international tourists during the 2012 event, accounting for 16.4 percent of the full-year figure of 22 million visitors.
