A show, “2013 Ao dai night”, which showcases the year’s best ‘ao dai’ (traditional long gown) collections by three famed local designers, is set to take place for the first time at a century-old villa in Ho Chi Minh City tonight, Dec 26.

The show, to be held at the villa at 33 Le Quy Don, district 3 at 6pm, will feature different collections by designers Si Hoang, Vo Viet Chung and Nguyen Cong Tri.

Apart from enjoying the sparkling costumes, audiences will also relish in delectable Vietnamese dishes by Gao Restaurant and explore the “secrets” of the edifice, which was built in 1890.

All the show earnings and donations will go to the “Sanh buoc yeu thuong” (Accompany in love) Fund for physically challenged kids.

Veteran designer Si Hoang, who has been dedicated to “ao dai” over the past 24 years, has garnered considerable success with the traditional costume. His Ao dai Museum is set to open to the public on Jan 22, 2014.

Meanwhile, designer Vo Viet Chung is credited with preserving the material called “Lanh My A”, which is native to the southern region, and creating gorgeous “ao dai” from it.

Nguyen Cong Tri has also designed the “ao dai” donned by local contestants at several international beauty pageants.
