An exhibit, “Vietnam’s examination traditions”, which is running in Hue until the end of this month, accentuates the country’s education and examination practices spanning from 1075 to 1919.
The exhibit, going on at Hue Royal Palace, features nearly 60 archival photos on education and exam taking practices as well as time-honored institutions including Van Mieu Quoc Tu Giam - the country’s first university - in Hanoi, Van Mieu Phu Xuan and Vo Mieu in Hue.
Also on display are a number of woodblocks and administrative documents. The exhibit also features replicas of 116 steles, on which the names of some 3,000 top achievers were inscribed.
The country’s first exam was held in 1075 and the practices saw considerable improvements and reformations during the following dynasties.
The institutions not only trained thousands of national talents but also nurtured qualities such as studiousness and eagerness for knowledge as well as respect and gratitude to teachers.
