The free screening of “Worlds apart”, a half-hour TV drama about generation gaps and conflicts within a Vietnamese-Australian family, and an exchange with its expat Vietnamese co-director, are set to take place in Ho Chi Minh City this afternoon, Jan 17.

The screening and exchange will take place at Hall 407 Hoa Sen (Lotus) University, 8 Nguyen Van Trang, district 1, at 1.30 pm.

“Worlds apart”, first screened on SBS Television in Dec 1997, is considered a breakthrough in Australia’s drama production industry for being a good film on a limited budget.

Tony Le Nguyen, who co-directed the film together with Gary McKechnie in 1996, will also show up at the film screening and share with audiences its making process as well as his 20-year filmmaking experience.

Born Le Thien Toan in Vietnam in 1968, Nguyen began working as an actor in 1985 and later made a name as an actor, writer, director and producer over the past 20 years.

Nguyen was the first Vietnamese-Australian to be appointed as an Official Prison Visitor to Port Phillip and Fulham Correctional Centers in 2003 to act as an independent voice for the prison system in Victoria.

A graduate in Television Production from RMIT in 1989, Nguyen is best known for his role in Geoffrey Wright’s 1992 feature film “Romper Stomper” along with several other TV dramas. He was granted the Community Cultural Development Fellowship by the Australia Council for the Arts in 2000.
