Exhibition on ASEAN, Vietnam’s culture to start in Hanoi next week

Sunday, August 24, 2014, 10:50 GMT+7

An exhibition featuring thousands of photos and documents on the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) community and Vietnam’s national holidays is set to begin next week in the country’s capital city of Hanoi, the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism said Friday on its website.

The “Khong Gian Van Hoa ASEAN” (ASEAN Cultural Space) expo, to be held from August 28 to September 15 at the National Library of Vietnam at 31 Trang Thi Street, will present nearly 1,000 historically valuable documents.

Exhibited artifacts including photos, paintings, books, and newspapers in different languages focus on four topics: Vietnam’s August Revolution (1945) and National Day (September 2); the country’s developmental achievements since its reform process started in 1986; the economic, cultural, and maritime status of Vietnam, the Vietnam-ASEAN cooperation, and the country's role in the ASEAN community.

The image of Vietnamese people, special cultural characteristics, and a number of well-known literary, architectural, and cinematographic products of ASEAN countries will also be showcased at the expo.

The event aims at marking the 69th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day (September 2, 1945), the 47th anniversary of ASEAN (August 8, 1967), and 19 years of Vietnam’s entry into ASEAN (July 28, 1995).
