Sony Pictures Entertainment has acquired the feature film rights to an upcoming comic book series, jointly created by a New York Times bestselling author and an expat Vietnamese bestselling comic artist.

>> An audio version of the story is available here   The Japanese film making giant has obtained the right to adapt a comic book series titled “Descender” into a feature film, The Thao va Van Hoa, an affiliate of the Vietnam News Agency, reported Monday.

The series is the brainchild of New York Times bestselling author Jeff Lemire and the U.S. newspaper’s bestselling comic artist Dustin Nguyen, who is of Vietnamese origin. Its first issue, which promises an intriguing cosmic journey involving a little boy who is on a quest to find home in a universe that hates and fears him, is scheduled for release on March 4.

The astonishingly lifelike artificial boy may hold secrets deep down in his machine DNA to the origin of robots that have annihilated entire planets. The boy is thus the most-wanted robot in the universe.

Lemire and Nguyen said they are thrilled Sony Pictures has acquired the series and strongly believe their film adaption will do justice to the original comics.

Dustin Nguyen, 39, is a noted comic book artist and is also known as a conceptual artist for toys, games, and animation.

He is internationally famous for his artwork in several “Batman” comic series including “Batman Eternal,” “Batman: Streets of Gotham,” “Detective Comics,” and most recently “Batman: Li’l Gotham."
