The government’s office has just announced Prime Minister Dung’s approval of a project to build the Vietnam Television Tower, Vietnamplus reported.

The tower is expected to be among the world’s tallest.

To be partly owned by Vietnam Television (VTV), the national television station, the tower will be erected on a 14-hectare plot within the Tay Ho Tay residential area, which spans three communes in Tay Ho, Cau Giay and Tu Liem Districts.

The Prime Minister has also OK'd VTV’s plan to operate a joint-stock company together with the State Capital Investment Corporation (SCIC) for the construction of the television tower after thoroughly studying the project’s efficiency.

VTV is also supposed to select privately-owned firms to join the joint-stock company.

The television station and SCIC can later sell their shares to recoup capital.

The tower is expected to have a significant impact on the neighborhood’s tourism and social investment apart from being a new key highlight of the capital’s architecture.
