‘La Bohème,’ a classic Italian opera, is poised to wow audiences in Hanoi this weekend.
The opera, written by one of Italy’s most revered composers Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924), will take place at 8:00 pm on Sunday night at the Hanoi Opera House, located at 1 Trang Tien, Hoan Kiem District.
The dramatic work will be directed by Matthew Barclay of the Opera Australia and performed by the theater’s young artists.
The performance is part of the 2016 edition of Hennessy Concert series, which have been staged in the capital city annually since 1996, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Music enthusiasts can follow the opera on a 500-inch screen, to be erected at the August Revolution Square in front of the Hanoi Opera House.
‘La Bohème’ was also staged by the Vietnam National Opera Ballet Theater in 2009.
The world premiere performance of the four-act ‘La Bohème opera was in Turin in February 1896, with its U.S. debut taking place the following year in Los Angeles.
Since then, the masterpiece has become part of the standard Italian opera repertory and is one of the most performed operas worldwide.
