Ho Chi Minh City has set targets to welcome 8.5 million international tourists and 45 million domestic visitors, and generate VND260 trillion (US$10.2 billion) in tourism revenue in 2025.
The municipal Department of Tourism on Monday held a conference to review its performance in 2024 and set a detailed goal for 2025.
The southern metropolis served six million international travelers in 2024, rising 20 percent year on year and fulfilling its target, said Nguyen Cam Tu, director of the municipal Tourism Promotion Center.
The number of domestic visitors to the city reached an estimated 38 million in 2024, a 8.6-percent year-on-year increase.
Tourism earned VND190 trillion ($7.5 billion) in 2024, up 18.8 percent against 2023.
Given the growth, the city’s tourism department aims to welcome 8.5 million international visitors in 2025, up over 40 percent year on year.
The city also set ambitious goals for tourism revenue and the influx of domestic tourists in 2025.
To achieve the targets, the department plans to adopt various measures to entice local and international tourists, Tu said.
Accordingly, the department will cooperate with some units to host several events in a bid to turn the city into a captivating destination of events and festivals.
Besides, the department is working to boost the effectiveness of tourism governance and create favorable conditions for travel firms to expand their reach.
Over 1,530 travel firms in the city are eligible to operate, according to the municipal department.
“Ho Chi Minh City is an alluring tourist destination for both local and international travelers, significantly contributing to Vietnam’s total international tourist arrivals in 2024 at 17.5 million,” said Nguyen Trung Khanh, head of the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism.
The country saw a 39-percent year-on-year increase in the number of foreign tourists in 2024, and served an estimated 110 million domestic visitors.
This year, Vietnam’s tourism revenue totals VND840 trillion ($33 billion), up 24 percent year on year, he said.
