South Korean contemporary artist Lee Sung Keun’s first painting exhibition in Vietnam is scheduled to take place in Hanoi from October 26 to 31.

The event, set to take place at the Daewoo Hotel, will feature 50 pieces painted on Hanji, an ancient style of paper that can last up to a thousand years, the organizers announced at a press conference in the Vietnamese capital on Monday.

While Lee has already introduced them to audiences in America, Germany, France, and Austria, this is the first time his paintings will be put on display in Vietnam.

The exhibits will feature Lee’s most recent paintings of horses, an animal he believes represents the strength of Vietnam and its breakthroughs on the world stage, the artist told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.

The pieces are filled with energy thanks to the extreme movement and colors, Park Hyung Sik, chairman of the Art Association of South Korea, commented.

Lee’s works are also known for toeing the line between real and abstract, with themes revolving around the mysteriousness of the eastern world.

Having practiced professional art for 30 years, Lee Seon Keun is one of South Korea’s most recognized modern artists. His works earned him the 6th IEDang Art Award.

In addition to painting, the artist also heads the judging panel for the National Art Exhibition of South Korea and lectures at Konkuk University Graduate School.

Lee’s currently has works on display at the Blue House in South Korea, the UN Headquarters, the British Monarchy, the U.S. Department of Defense, the Pentagon, and Paris Hermes.
