Vietnam and China have agreed to strictly carry out the two leaders’ common perception and strengthen mechanisms to negotiate sea-related issues based on their mutually agreed principles guiding the settlement of such issues.

>> Vietnam, China meet to step up crime-fighting cooperation The agreement was reached in the 7th meeting of the Vietnam-China Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation held in Hanoi on Monday under the co-chair of Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi, the Vietnam News Agency reported. Deputy PM Minh urged both sides to effectively specify the agreements reached during the Vietnamese Party chief’s Special Envoy Le Hong Anh’s visit to China in August 2014 on restoring cooperative exchanges, firmly controlling sea-related disagreements and avoiding actions that may further complicate and broaden disputes. The two sides agreed to accelerate joint surveys at sea off the Gulf of Tonkin, speed up their negotiations on the delineation of the sea, and promote development cooperation in these waters, as agreed by Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and his Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang at their meeting in Milan, Italy, on October 16, 2014.

The host and guest agreed that solving maritime issues satisfactorily is crucial for bilateral relations. They also emphasized the need to implement three documents on territorial boundaries and cooperate closely to settle issues arising in border management. Chinese State Councillor Yang Jiechi said China attaches the utmost importance to its friendship and cooperation with Vietnam, and added that thanks to joint efforts, both sides have overcome recent difficulties and bilateral ties are being restored. The Chinese official also urged the two countries to strictly follow the directions for cooperation development and appropriately settle and control sea disputes in order to create a favorable environment for bilateral cooperation. In order to deepen their all-around ties, the two sides agreed to create the best possible conditions for bilateral affiliation, facilitate the effective implementation of the action plan on the Vietnam-China strategic partnership, and set up joint working groups on infrastructure and currency to strengthen cooperation in these fields. Following the meeting, Deputy PM Minh and Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi witnessed the signing of the minutes of the 7th meeting of the Vietnam-China Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation.
