The seventh plenary meeting of Vietnam’s Party Central Committee commenced on Monday morning, with personnel work, and salary and social insurance policy reforms topping the agenda.

Chaired by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong, the plenum is scheduled to take place in Hanoi from May 7 to 12.

During the six-day gathering, delegates will focus on discussing several main subjects, namely personnel work at all levels, especially at the strategic one, salary reform for officials, public servants, the armed forces, and workers, and social insurance policy reform.

These topics are considered significant for building the Party and political system, as well as improving social security and the lives of officials, public servants, laborers, and citizens.

The Party Central Committee will also deliberate on several reports on the performance of the Politburo and Secretariat in 2017.

In his opening remarks, General Secretary Trong noted the importance of the meeting, which takes place in the context of the good development of the country and new opportunities for the renovation cause.

A number of guidelines and policies on personnel work have been adopted over the past two decades but shortcomings still remain, the Party chief continued.

He urged the delegates to find out the reasons leading to the low effectiveness of these guidelines in order to work out breakthrough solutions and address the shortcomings in a quick and comprehensive manner.

Trong also asked them to uphold their responsibility and study carefully submitted reports to make quality contributions to documents which will be passed at the end of the plenum.

The previous plenary meeting of the Party Central Committee took place from October 4 to 10, 2017, during which important policies were discussed and punishments for violations by high-ranking officials were determined.
