Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh left Hanoi-based Noi Bai International Airport at noon on Sunday to begin his official visit to China and sit in on the 14th Annual Meeting of the New Champions of the World Economic Forum (WEF).
The prime minister’s entourage includes Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, Minister - Chairman of the Government Office Tran Van Son, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, Chairman of the Commission for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises Nguyen Hoang Anh, Deputy Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang, Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Sao Mai, and Deputy Chief of the Party Central Committee Office Bui Van Thach.
The top Vietnamese official pays a China visit at the invitation of Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang.
This is the first visit to China by Prime Minister Chinh since he took office in April 2021.
The visit was scheduled to deepen the Vietnam - China ties and reaffirm numerous commitments.
The prime minister’s China visit is also aimed at enhancing high-ranking delegation exchange, said Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu.
Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Sao Mai expects the two nations to achieve positive results for bilateral relations during the visit, contributing to beefing up political trust and boosting sustainable growth.
Through the visit, two-way partnership in various fields such as culture, education, tourism, technology, and science will be strengthened.
Furthermore, the two countries’ high-ranking leaders will reach a consensus to maintain peace and stability at sea, and promote cooperation at international forums.
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong visited China in late October and early November 2022.
Vietnam and China established their ties in January 1950, and have entered the comprehensive strategic partnership since May 2008.
Vietnam is China’s largest trade partner in Southeast Asia, and is the latter’s fourth-biggest trade partner worldwide.
Two-way trade totaled US$175.56 billion in 2022, up $9.8 billion year on year, according to statistics from the General Department of Vietnam Customs.
