Vietnam and Kazakhstan set up diplomatic ties in 1992.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Kazakhstan was put into operation in July 2008, while Kazakhstan opened an embassy in the Southeast Asian nation in March 2015.

In 2015, Vietnam was the first country to sign a free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), whose members include Kazakhstan.

The deal opened a wider door for Vietnamese enterprises to tap the EAEU market in general and the market of Kazakhstan in particular.

In the first four months of 2023, trade between Kazakhstan and Vietnam amounted to over US$124 million, a year-on-year increase of 34.5 percent.

The two nations are eyeing deeper cooperation in tourism through direct air services.

Seven non-stop flights operate between Vietnam and Kazakhstan each week.
