Vietnamese State President Vo Van Thuong will travel to China on Tuesday next week to attend the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement released on Thursday.
The trip will be made at the invitation of General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and President of China Xi Jinping.
State President Thuong will lead a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to attend the 3rd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, slated for October 17-20.
This will be State President Thuong’s first trip to China since he took office in March this year.
Vietnam and China have maintained good relations and achieved positive results, especially after Vietnam’s Party Nguyen General Secretary Phu Trong’s visit to China from October 30 to November 1, 2022.
Visits by high-ranking delegations of the two countries’ Parties and exchange and cooperation activities have been maintained since earlier this year.
Vietnam-China trade reached US$122 billion in January-September of this year.
Of the total, Vietnam exported $42.9 billion worth of products to its northern neighbor, or 16.6 percent of its total exports.
Chinese investors poured nearly $2.1 billion in 478 projects in Vietnam during the nine-month period, making it the second largest foreign investor in the Southeast Asian country, following Singapore.
During Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Vietnam and participation in the APEC Summit on November 12, 2017, Vietnam and China signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on promoting connections between the ‘Two Corridors, One Belt’ framework with the ‘Belt and Road’ initiative.
The two sides are entering into discussions to realize this MoU.
China hosted the first and second Belt and Road Forums for International Cooperation in May 2017 and April 2019, respectively.
Vietnamese leaders attended and delivered important speeches at these two forums.
