The ongoing issue of dead and leafless trees along Hoa Phuoc-Hoa Khuong Road in Da Nang City, central Vietnam has yet to be addressed while more and more trees show signs of rot.

The dying trees that flank Hoa Phuoc-Hoa Khuong Road have been around for a while, but little action has been taken to fix the issue.

Dying trees are not the only issue with the road, where the median strip and roadside areas are an overgrown eyesore.

In response to the issue, the Da Nang Department of Transport said that the municipal administration issued a directive on January 3 tasking the Da Nang Priority Infrastructure Investment Project Management Board with addressing the problem.

The management board was also tasked with developing a plan to replant and enhance the green space along the road and submitting it to the municipal Department of Construction for review and approval.

The department noted that the road management unit had already cleared weeds and trimmed plants to maintain clear visibility.

It was also committed to conducting regular inspections and promptly addressing any issues to ensure traffic safety and environmental cleanliness.

Hoa Phuoc-Hoa Khuong Road, which opened in 2019, was a key infrastructure project funded by a World Bank loan and the city, with a total investment of nearly VND500 billion (US$20 million).

In 2019, a contract for planting trees and establishing an irrigation system along the road was awarded to Ha Do Green Tree and Construction JSC at a bid price of over VND7.5 billion ($294,000).

The package included the planting of 1,320 trees along the sidewalks and 1,290 in the median strip, as well as installing an irrigation system.

However, many of the trees began to wither and die soon after the road opened to traffic.
