Vietnam’s Engineering Unit Rotation 2 at the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) has teamed up with the Pakistani forces to offer free medical check-ups and medicines to local people in the Abyei area, located in Africa.
The humanitarian activity, which gathered over 200 local people, enabled the locals to improve their access to healthcare services and helped build up connection and promote solidarity between the locals and the UN peacekeeping unit.
The Pakistani side put up a huge tent that can accommodate some 300 people and set up different zones for the locals to undergo medical check-ups and get medicines.
The Vietnamese unit prepared medical supplies and sent healthcare workers to the event to carry out the medical examinations.
Aside from getting medical check-ups and medicines at no charge, the locals received medical advice on how to prevent illnesses, stay healthy, keep their houses and the surroundings clean.

The Vietnamese unit also set up an area to screen local women for breast cancer, as part of the UNISFA’s breast cancer screening campaign.
However, the Vietnamese healthcare workers faced challenges to conduct the screening for breast cancer and gynecological diseases for local women due to cultural differences.
“We hope that we’ll launch more events to help improve the lives and health of the locals in the upcoming period,” said Major Nguyen Mau Vu from the Vietnamese unit.
