Vietnam’s State President Vo Van Thuong and law-making National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue hosted separate receptions in Hanoi on Monday for Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, who is visiting Vietnam through Tuesday at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Minh Chinh.

President Thuong affirmed that Vietnam always supports Cambodia's national construction and development process.

Hanoi treasures and wishes to further strengthen its friendship and comprehensive partnership with Phnom Penh, he added.

PM Hun Manet expressed his pleasure at his first official visit to Vietnam since assuming power in August this year. This also marks his first trip to an ASEAN nation.

Both sides expressed their satisfaction with the positive growth of their bilateral relations and spoke highly of regular all-level exchanges, adding that the two countries have effectively implemented bilateral cooperation mechanisms and increasingly developed their comprehensive cooperation across the board.

The two leaders agreed to beef up cooperation in politics, national defense-security, economy-trade, science-technology, agriculture, tourism, education and training, and people-to-people exchange.

President Thuong took this occasion to express his thanks and propose that the Cambodian side continue creating favorable conditions for people of Vietnamese origin in Cambodia to live and do business there, including making it more convenient for them to process legal papers.

Both countries need to continue their joint efforts to complete the remaining 16-percent land border demarcation and border marker planting, with the goal of building a borderline of peace, friendship, cooperation, and development.

The top Vietnamese official restated his invitation to Cambodia’s King Norodom Sihamoni and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk to revisit Vietnam soon and extended his greetings and good wishes to the King, the Queen Mother, and other senior officials of Cambodia.

During his reception for PM Hun Manet, NA Chairman Hue expressed his hope that the Vietnam visit by the Cambodian prime minister would help tighten and elevate the traditional friendship and comprehensive partnership between the two nations.

The top Vietnamese legislator and the Cambodian government leader hailed the positive outcomes of bilateral trade, which first surpassed US$10 billion in 2022.

Both nations need to further cooperate and support each other to develop an independent and self-reliant economy, as well as tighten ties between the two economies, with a focus on traffic infrastructure projects.

NA Chairman Hue suggested both sides should bolster cooperation in aquaculture, maintain strategic supply chains with high added value in agriculture, and boost the socio-economic development in the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Area.

The two officials also wished that both countries would continue their close cooperation in building a stable borderline, adding that the two law-making bodies would maintain their collaboration and support each other at multilateral forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, and the Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum.
