Minister of Justice Le Thanh Long has been picked as the new deputy prime minister of Vietnam for the 2021-26 tenure.
The lawmaking National Assembly on Thursday adopted a resolution approving the appointment of the new deputy prime minister, with a majority of lawmakers voting in favor, following a proposal by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
Long was backed by 468 out of the 469 lawmakers present at the house vote.
The Vietnamese government is now led by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and has four deputy prime ministers: Le Minh Khai, Tran Hong Ha, Tran Luu Quang, and Le Thanh Long.
Long, born in 1963, is a native of Thanh Hoa Province in north-central Vietnam.
He holds a doctorate in law.
Long is a member of the 13th Party Central Committee and a National Assembly deputy.
He served as Minister of Justice from April 2016.
