China's top political advisor to attend state funeral of Party chief Nguyen Phu Trong in Vietnam

China's top political advisor to attend state funeral of Party chief Nguyen Phu Trong in Vietnam

China's top political advisor Wang Huning will visit Vietnam to attend the state funeral of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Nguyen Phu Trong, the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee announced on Wednesday morning.

As General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping's Special Representative, Wang, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, will lead a CPC delegation to take part in the mourning activities in Hanoi from Thursday to Friday.

On July 20, China’s Party chief and President Xi came to the Vietnamese Embassy in Beijing to mourn the passing of Vietnamese Party chief Trong, according to Chinese media.

After the top Chinese leader paid homage in front of the portrait of Party General Secretary Trong, he bowed down three times and then wrote in the condolence book, the Xinhua News Agency reported.

The top Chinese official told Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Sao Mai that Party General Secretary Trong was a staunch Marxist and a great leader of the CPV and the Vietnamese people.

Xi emphasized that Party General Secretary Trong dedicated his entire life to the Vietnamese Party, state, and people. He led the nation to significant achievements in building socialism in Vietnam and earned the support and admiration of the Party, military, and people.

“Over the past 10 years, comrade Nguyen Phu Trong and I had several close meetings and established deep comradeship,” the top Chinese official said.

Xi also underscored a key milestone marked last year when he and the Vietnamese leader declared that their countries would jointly build a community with a shared future.

“The passing of comrade Nguyen Phu Trong made us lose a good comrade who boosted the China - Vietnam ties and accompanied in the development of socialism,” he expressed his great sadness.

“China always keeps in mind the significant contributions by comrade Nguyen Phu Trong to fostering the relationship between the two Parties and the two countries as well as the socialist movement in the world."

Earlier, the CPC Central Committee sent condolences to the CPV Central Committee over the passing of the Vietnamese Party leader.

Over the past few days, lots of leaders of countries, parties, and international organizations have sent telegrams and letters of condolence to Vietnam over the passing of the Party leader.

Aside from China, many countries including the U.S., South Korea, New Zealand, and Japan previously announced that they will send delegations to Vietnam to attend Party chief Trong’s state funeral, set to take place on July 25 and 26.

The Party chief passed away at 1:38 pm on July 19 in Hanoi at the age of 80.

He will lie in state at the National Funeral Hall at No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong Street in Hanoi.

The ceremony for the Party leader will be held at the National Funeral Hall from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm on July 25 and from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm on July 26.

It will be followed by a memorial service at 1:00 pm on July 26.

A burial service for the Party chief will take place from 3:00 pm on the same day at Mai Dich Cemetery in Hanoi.
