Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Public Security Tran Quoc To and Assistant Director of the Training Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Jacqueline Maguire discussed further cooperation when they met in the U.S. on Saturday.
At their meeting at the FBI Academy in Quantico City of the U.S. state of Virginia, Deputy Minister To expressed his delight at the past fruitful cooperation between the two agencies in crime prevention, law enforcement, and security and order maintenance, especially after the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on transnational crime prevention and control in 2019, the Vietnam News Agency reported.
Over the past five years, the ministry has collaborated with the FBI to fulfill over 300 requests for criminal information exchange related to investigations, prosecutions, and trials, To told Maguire.
In 2023 alone, the ministry handed over five wanted suspects to U.S. authorities. Since 2021, the Vietnamese agency has supported the FBI’s 17 requests to freeze accounts valued at over US$600,000.
Regarding training cooperation, the Vietnamese official highly appreciated the FBI’s support in enhancing the capability of the ministry’s law enforcement officers.
The FBI has coordinated with the ministry to organize many training sessions and seminars on preventing cybercrime, money laundering, and other transnational crimes for Vietnamese officers.

To enhance the effectiveness of bilateral cooperation, Deputy Minister To suggested to Maguire that both sides continue to effectively implement the aforementioned MoU.
He also requested adequate support for Vietnam's verification requests to aid in the investigation and clarification of crimes in Vietnam.
He urged the two sides to promptly proceed with the signing of an agreement on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, an agreement on extradition, and a deal on the transfer of convicted persons.
The ministry and the FBI should increase delegation exchanges at all levels to discuss and share information on issues of mutual concern, To suggested.
He suggested that the FBI provide Vietnam with modern equipment, technology transfer, and specialized solutions to effectively support the fight against crime.
In terms of training cooperation with the FBI Academy, Deputy Minister To proposed that the FBI continue offering scholarships for professional training in the U.S. to the ministry's officers.
He also suggested exchanging expertise and experience with Vietnam’s law enforcement and coordinating seminars focused on crime fighting, leadership development, and English skill improvement for Vietnamese police officers.
During the meeting, the Vietnamese official congratulated the host on the FBI’s 116th anniversary (July 26) and expressed his hope that the FBI will remain an active partner of the ministry in ensuring security and safety for the interests of both nations' citizens.
He emphasized the importance of promoting strong, meaningful, and effective bilateral ties.
