Russia’s political parties throw their support behind the relationship with Vietnam, Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Victorovich Volodin told Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman (NA) Vuong Dinh Hue during their talks in Hanoi on Sunday.
The Russian State Duma leader arrived in Vietnam on Sunday, starting his two-day visit at the invitation of NA Chairman Hue.
The State Duma brings together the representatives from five political parties, and all the parliamentarians expect deeper ties between Russia and Vietnam, said Volodin.
The support was reflected through the presence of representatives from these political parties; the State Duma’s committees, and the Russian ministries on the trip.
Speaking at their talks, Volodin expects high-level meetings between the two legislative bodies to be maintained.
The Vietnam - Russia ties have greatly flourished, especially after the two nations established a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2012.
The two countries should diversify their cooperation methods to advance their bilateral ties, he underlined.
Vietnam’s top legislator Hue highly valued the Russian delegation, affirming that Russia is always one of Vietnam’s diplomatic priorities.
The Southeast Asian nation attaches much significance to cooperation with Russia’s political parties, legislature, government, and people.
Vietnam supports Russia’s role in the Asia-Pacific region, and is willing to link Russia and ASEAN countries, said NA Chairman Hue.
The two sides reached a consensus on stronger collaboration at regional and international forums.
The top Vietnamese official also proposed Russia support the standpoints of ASEAN and Vietnam in settling disputes by peaceful means based on international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) in 1982.

Discussing the economic, trade and investment partnership, NA Chairman Hue prompted Russia to consider simplifying procedures of importing Vietnamese farm produce.
He also proposed Russia push the negotiations, upgrade and supplementation of a free trade agreement between Vietnam and the Eurasian Economic Union, whose members include Russia.
Vietnam hopes that Russia will maintain and boost its cooperation in the fields of science, technology, and training.
