116-year-old recognized as oldest-ever man in Vietnam

Vietnam Book of Records (Vietkings) has recognized a 116-year-old in the Central Highlands province of Dak Nong as the oldest-ever man in Vietnam. The record holder, Y’N Dong, of the Mo Nong minority ethnic group, is living at Bon Jang Play 1, Truong Xuan Commune, Dak Song District.

Despite his age, the old man is in a rather good health condition. He can walk briskly and has a sound mind.
He and his wife, 94-year-old H’Doi, have 14 children, of whom seven have died.
The old couple now has 44 grandchildren and 20 great-grand children. When asked about his secret of longevity, Dong simply said he had been engaged in cultivation since a child and had yet to take any medicine. Earlier on September 15, 2014, the Dak Nong Province Elderly People Association worked with the local authorities and concerned agencies to verify information related to the age of the man.
The association later submitted a file to the Vietkings asking it to recognize Dong as the oldest-ever man in Vietnam. After verification, Vietkings presented a certificate of record and a Vietnam Record badge to the man. Earlier in July this year, a 121-year-old woman in Ho Chi Minh City, Nguyen Thi Tru, was recognized as the oldest woman in Vietnam. She has 11 children and is now living with the family of the youngest, who is 72 years old. Tru said her recipe for longevity is to lead a happy, peaceful life, eat meals on time and help others. The oldest woman in the world recognized by the Guinness World Records at present is Misao Okawa, 116, from Japan. The Vietkings is expected to submit the case of the 121-year-old Tru to the Guinness World Records for recognition.

World's oldest person On June 11, 2014, international media reported that the world's oldest person and the oldest man ever to have lived has died of natural causes aged 116 years – the same as Dong. Japan's Jiroemon Kimura, who was born in 1897, died in hospital early morning that day, according to AFP. Kimura was recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's oldest living person in December 2012 when a woman from the United States died at the age of 115. On the 28th day of that month he broke another record, when he became the oldest man ever verified to have lived when he reached the age of 115 years and 253 days. However, he was well off the all-time record set by French woman Jeanne Calment, who died in 1997 at the age of 122, making her the longest living person in history, AFP said. |
