Local police in central Vietnam’s Khanh Hoa Province said on Saturday a big wild boar had attacked and killed a teenage boy. Meanwhile, a large monkey, which broke loose from a household, has been causing chaos and damage in a neighborhood in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong for the past two months.
According to Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, head of the local police station in Khanh Vinh District in Khanh Hoa Province, around 4pm on Saturday, 15-year-old Nguyen Van Dai was fishing at a lake near a residential area when he was attacked by a large wild boar in the head and legs.
The boy died soon after that.
The aggressive boar then went on to charge at Nguyen Thi Canh, a 49-year-old woman who was working on her paddy field nearby, leaving her seriously injured in her thighs.
Another wild boar also struck and killed a woman in Duc Pho District in central Quang Ngai Province on the morning of October 28.
Meanwhile, locals in Bao Lam District in Lam Dong Province are complaining about the disturbing presence of a 6-kg male monkey, which had escaped from a local household in early September this year.
The highly elusive, cunning animal often sneaks into locals’ homes in the cloak of nightfall and leaves behind extensive damage.
Locals complained that on the nights when they forgot to lock their hen and bird coops, the monkey crept in, suffocating birds, attacking chicken and smashing eggs.
They also lamented that the animal often climbs onto their roofs at night, causing loud noises and disrupting their sleep.
The monkey also chews and destroys a number of household utensils and clothes. It even sneaks into locals’ homes to steal cellphones and infants’ milk bottles.
Some locals have taken the matter in their own hands by using nets to trap the mischievous monkey, to little avail.
Pham Van Nien, deputy head of the district’s forest ranging department, said he was notified of the monkey two days ago.
No owner has claimed responsibility for the animal so far, he added.
Nien stressed he has sent three staffers to the neighborhood to catch the monkey, but as they have no proper kits such as tranquilizer guns, the animal remains on the loose.
He added he has applied to authorized agencies for specialized gear to catch the elusive monkey in the shortest of time.
