A Vietnamese taxi driver has been caught on camera swinging a stick at another commuter despite having traveled in the wrong direction on a highway in the north-central province of Thanh Hoa.
The violent actions of the cabbie were recorded in dashboard camera footage which has now gone viral on social media and sparked outrage.
The incident occurred at around 4:30 pm on Saturday along a section of National Highway 1A in Hoang Quy Commune, Hoang Hoa District, Thanh Hoa.
The video was filmed with the dashboard camera of another car traveling from Thanh Hoa toward Hanoi, revealing a taxi with license number 36A-194.69 driving in the opposite direction along a one-way street.
As the car stopped the wrong-way driver by blocking the taxi head-on, the cabbie got out of his vehicle with what appeared to be a metal stick and threatened his ‘obstructer.’
A woman sitting in the cab intervened with the potential violence and managed to snatch the weapon from his hand.
Voices of other people in the car were heard in the background, telling their driver to back off and let the driver pass.
A man from the automobile was seen getting out of the car and arguing with the cabbie.
Speaking with Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Sunday afternoon, Captain Trinh Xuan Tung, a traffic police official from the Thanh Hoa Department of Police, confirmed that they would review the footage to identify the cab driver.
Punishment is expected to be imposed upon the cabbie for his serious violation of the traffic law, Tung added.
