-- Vietnam strongly opposes China’s launch of a cinema on Phu Lam Island, part of Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang affirmed on Tuesday.

-- Mozambican Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosario expressed hopes during a meeting on Tuesday with his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc that Vietnamese enterprises will expand their operation in different areas in Mozambique.

-- A 30-year-old woman and her two young sons drowned on Monday afternoon while having a swim in a stream in Dai Tu District, located in the northern province of Thai Nguyen, local authorities confirmed on Tuesday.

-- A Japanese company and its Vietnamese partner on Tuesday began work on an anti-flood reservoir on a street section in Thu Duc District, Ho Chi Minh City.

-- The economic police unit under the Ministry of Public Security on Tuesday detained and began court proceedings against Tram Be, one of Vietnam’s most well-known banking moguls, and Phan Huy Khang, who are both former top executives at Sacombank, for their wrongdoings that caused damage of approximately VND6.6 trillion (US$288.4 million).  

-- Police in Quang Yen Town in the northern province of Quang Ninh revealed on Tuesday they were monitoring the retrieval of a barge which had sunk on the Chanh River along with 1,000 metric tons of coal on board on Sunday.

-- Petrolimex, Vietnam's largest fuel wholesaler, disclosed in its recently released financial report that the group earned VND74.2 trillion ($3.2 billion) in total revenues and VND1.18 trillion ($5.1 million) in profits from gas and oil alone within the second quarter of 2017.

-- National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines on Tuesday launched a fast track service at airports in Japan and Indonesia that saves its business class and VIP passengers lengthy waits and queues.

-- Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has approved the establishment of Vietnam Journalism Museum, to be located in Cau Giay District, Hanoi.

-- An exhibition showcasing works by French photographer Rehahn C, who has devoted himself to taking photos of Vietnamese people, is running in Hanoi until October 1.
