New chief editor takes wheel at Tuoi Tre

Monday, October 23, 2017, 15:23 GMT+7

Le The Chu, Acting Editor-in-Chief of Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, has been appointed its Editor-in-Chief after over ten months of filling the vacancy left by his predecessor.

The appointment was announced on Monday morning in a ceremony held at the headquarters of Tuoi Tre in Phu Nhuan District, Ho Chi Minh City.

Dinh Minh Trung, the paper’s Chief of Office and a member of the editorial board, was named Deputy Editor-in-Chief in the same ceremony.

Chu and Trung’s promotions were signed into effect in separate decisions on Friday by Pham Hong Son, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City chapter of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, which overlooks the newspaper’s operations.

Each of them will serve a five-year tenure before further appointments are made.

Speaking at Monday’s ceremony for the first time as Editor-in-Chief of Tuoi Tre, Chu asserted his vision to develop the Ho Chi Minh City-based media house into a humane newspaper that contributes to Vietnam’s development and social progress.

“With my new responsibility, I will work with the editorial board to connect the members of our newspaper to form a unified team that works creatively to uphold the identity and values of the newspaper,” Chu, who was born in 1965, said.

With nearly 30 years of experience in printing press, Chu is the former Editor-in-Chief of Khan Quang Do (Red Scarf), a teen publication, before his appointment as Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Tuoi Tre in 2010.

He was appointed Acting Editor-in-Chief of Tuoi Tre in December last year after its former Editor-in-Chief Tang Huu Phong became Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Tan Phu District in Ho Chi Minh City.

Trung, 42, began working at Tuoi Tre in 2004 as an accountant, before being promoted to the post of a senior accountant and the chief of office and director of Tuoi Tre Tower.

Since November 2015, he has been the paper’s Chief of Office and a member of its editorial board.

Tuoi Tre is a media group that consists of the daily Tuoi Tre, the socio-political weekly magazine Tuoi Tre Cuoi Tuan, the satirical magazine Tuoi Tre Cuoi published twice a month, the online newspaper Tuoi Tre Online, Tuoi Tre TV, and the English-language publication Tuoi Tre News

The group also owns a building, now for lease, a printing house in Ho Chi Minh City and other assets.
