A courtesy cart driver at Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh City was caught on camera stealing a large sum of money from a Japanese passenger who forgot his baggage on the cart.
The aviation security center at Tan Son Nhat confirmed on Thursday that the case had been handled.
According to reports, Matsumoto Masaya, a Japanese passenger, reported the lost assets to airport security units at around 12:45 am on October 22.
Masaya stated all the money in his handbag, which he had forgotten on a luggage cart, was missing.
Security camera footage later revealed that N.V.H., a cart driver, had stolen the property.
During questioning, H. admitted that he and an “acquaintance” had taken the handbag to the airport parking lot where they stole US$1,010 and JPY43,000.
They then returned the bag to the cart.
After being caught, the employee returned the cash to the airport’s aviation security center.
All the stolen money was returned to the passenger by 7:00 pm on October 23.
The Southern Airports Authority has made a report of case.
