A broad daylight murder occurred on a Ho Chi Minh City street on Sunday, when a man diagnosed with schizophrenia slit the throat of a six-year-old boy in cold-blood.
Police in Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Phu District have arrested Hoang Nhat Giang, 34, for the murder of six-year old N.H.V.Kh.
Kh., who lived with his mother at a house on Trinh Dinh Trong Street in Tan Phu District, was on his way to a nearby grocer's at around 1:00 pm on Sunday when he was spotted by Giang – a neighborhood guard, whose job is to maintain safety and security in the area.
According to eyewitnesses, Giang suddenly approached Kh. with a straight razor in his hand, held the boy down and slit his throat with the weapon.
Managing only to run a few steps, Kh. then collapsed on the pavement and died from the fatal wound.
After committing the brazen and unprovoked murder, Giang returned to his station across the street and locked himself inside.
Kh.’s uncle and other locals, who had witnessed the shocking incident, immediately surrounded him, forced him to come out and took the razor from his hand.
Tan Phu police officers arrived at the crime scene shortly after and immediately arrested the suspect.
According to Giang’s medical records, he was diagnosed with schizophrenia many years ago.
