Vietnamese man dies after slamming into free-roaming cow

Vietnamese man dies after slamming into free-roaming cow

A man in southern Vietnam died on Saturday, many days after his collision with a free-range cow which sent him into a severe condition.

Cao Thien Nhu, a resident on Phu Quoc Island off Kien Giang Province, hit an unattended cow grazing on a local road while he was riding his motorbike back home at around 8:00 pm on March 15.

He suffered serious resultant brain damage and died at Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City on March 24.

Phu Quoc police kept the cow in order to wait for its owner to claim the animal.

It is a common sight in some parts of Phu Quoc that cows wander freely on the roads, feeding on grass, plants and flowers grown in the median strips, which are their good food.

The latest similar incident occurred in early January, but with no human fatality involved.

A car driven by 51-year-old Nguyen Ngoc Tan slammed into a cow crossing a road of Vietnam’s southeastern Binh Duong Province, resulting in the vehicle’s head distorted and the animal lying immobile on the road due to injury.

Police said they destroyed the cow after it died, although they previously told Tan that it had been sold as compensation for his damaged car in the absence of the animal’s owner.
