Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security has busted a large-scale online gambling ring worth nearly VND2 trillion (US$87 million).
The ministry confirmed on Sunday morning they had coordinated with Ho Chi Minh City Police to put a stop to the illegal organization, which operated via the website www.m88gin.com.
Preliminary information showed that transactions made via the gambling ring were worth about VND2 trillion since it was first established in 2015.

Thousands of gamblers across the country have participated in the ring.
With its main server based in the Philippines, the website is presented in multiple languages including Vietnamese and offers multiple types of gambling, namely Playtech, sports betting, online casino, Keno, and lottery.
In order to join, gamblers are required to create an account and transfer their money to bank accounts provided by the site.

The ring accepted a variety of currencies, including VND and USD, and had multiple accounts at many banks in Vietnam.
After gathering enough information, police officers raided various locations in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and the southern province of Dong Nai on Saturday, arresting many suspects who held high powers within the illicit operation.

They also confiscated three automobiles, multiple savings books worth over VND10 billion ($435,965), cash in various currencies, bank cards, SIM cards, laptops, and tablet computers.
The Ministry of Public Security is expanding their investigation into the case.
