A five-year-old boy has miraculously survived after falling from the 12th floor of an apartment building in Ho Chi Minh City last week.
Doctors at the city’s Children’s Hospital confirmed on Monday they had saved the young boy named K., who resides in Binh Tan District, following the incident.
The patient is now in recovery after multiple days of intensive treatment.
Preliminary information showed that K. was playing in an apartment on the 12th floor on the afternoon of July 18 when his mother was busy with her chores.
The boy climbed up the washing machine that was placed on the balcony of the apartment before falling off the building.
Local residents rushed toward the scene after hearing a loud sound when he touched the ground, and immediately called for help.
K. landed on the soil used for planting trees instead of the concrete ground, which must have cushioned his fall.
He was quickly brought to the Ho Chi Minh City Children’s Hospital in Binh Chanh District, which is just ten minutes away.
K. did not lose his consciousness but he was seriously traumatized as he arrived at the infirmary.
Test results showed that the patient suffered damage to his liver and lungs, mild internal bleeding, and a broken right arm, neck, and thighs, while his brain was not injured.
Doctors considered that the boy was lucky to survive such a fall.
The boy is still receiving treatment at the hospital. He is fully awake and no longer relies on the medical ventilator to breathe, according to doctors.
His broken limbs are in plaster as part of further treatment.
In July 2018, the Children’s Hospital 2 in District 1 was able to save a four-year-old girl after she had fallen from the seventh floor of a local apartment complex.
