-- Monday marks the 90th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3, 1930 - February 3, 2020).

Society

-- The tenth day of the lunar year, which falls on Monday this year, is believed to be a day dedicated to the God of Wealth in some Vietnamese belief when residents flock to buy gold products to wish for financial success for the whole year.

-- Over 100 Vietnamese recently returning from China through Mong Cai International Border Gate in the northern province of Quang Ninh are quarantined at local hotels to monitor any symptom of the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) infection.

-- Vietnam has resumed flights between Vietnam and Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan since Sunday, hours after announcing a total ban on flights to and from China, to repatriate passengers at airports in Vietnam and the destinations.

-- Vietnam is working closely with Facebook and Google to block and remove content that spreads false news about the 2019-nCoV epidemic, Information and Communications Minister Nguyen Manh Hung said in a directive.

-- The body of Chinese national You Nianwu, 36, was found in a canal in the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu, one kilometer from his in-laws’ house, on Sunday after the man had gone missing since the previous day.

-- A car driver who fatally crashed into a GrabBike driver and seriously injured his passenger on early Thursday morning turned himself in on Sunday evening. He has tested positive for narcotics.

-- Vietnam’s railway authorities are working with their Chinese counterparts to cease the operation of trains between the two countries in light of the 2019-nCoV epidemic.

Business

-- Vietnam is the second-biggest source of foreigners working in Japan, according to the latest statistics of Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. Over 401,000 Vietnamese are now working in Japan, accounting for one-fourth of the Japanese foreign labor market.

-- Vietnam invested US$3.97 million abroad in January, more than three times higher than the same month last year, according to the Foreign Investment Agency.

World News

-- A total of 17,205 cases of the novel coronavirus has been confirmed in mainland China as of 12:00 am Monday, with 361 dead and 475 recovered patients, national broadcaster CGTN quoted statistics from China’s National Health Commission. The virus has spread to more than two dozen countries and territories outside of China, killing one Chinese national in the Philippines.
