Vietnam’s Ministry of Health reported no new cases of novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the past 24 hours while simultaneously announcing that several critically ill patients have been progressing toward recovery.

The country’s newest patient, a 16-year-old girl living in a border village in the northern province of Ha Giang, was confirmed on Thursday morning.

Vietnam’s COVID-19 tally remains at 268, with 177 having fully recovered.

The country has yet to record a death from the disease.

Doctors at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi are expected to announce the recovery of 14 patients on Friday.

Patients who are most seriously ill from COVID-19 in the country are making slow but consistent progress toward recovery.

Among them, patient No. 91, a 43-year-old British pilot hospitalized in Ho Chi Minh City, no longer has a fever or suffers from bleeding from his nose and mouth.

He has developed a spontaneous breathing pattern but still requires assistance from a ventilator.

His blood-clotting disorders and lung damage have stabilized.

The novel coronavirus, which first emerged in the central Chinese city of Wuhan in December 2019, has infected over 2.18 million people and killed more than 145,500 globally as of Friday morning, according to Ministry of Health statistics.
