— While receiving U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel Kritenbrink in Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday, municipal Party chief Nguyen Thien Nhan affirmed that Vietnam and the U.S. share an interest in developing peace and resolving common issues, while assessing that the Vietnam-U.S. relations are seeing development in many fields, including national defense and security.

— During a phone talk on Tuesday, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dang Minh Khoi and his Turkish counterpart Sedat Unal discussed measures to boost relations between Vietnam and Turkey in the context of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

Society

— Tuesday was Hanoi’s hottest day since the beginning of June, with the temperature topping 40 degrees Celsius.

— The National Fund for Vietnamese Children on Tuesday launched a community education program to share knowledge, experience, and skills to take care of children from 0 to 6 years old with a view to helping them grow up to their full potential in the loving arms of their family.

— The official Vietnam News Agency on Tuesday reported that an estimated 540,000 jobs have been added in Vietnam in the first six months of this year, meeting just 36.5 percent of the set target.

Education

— Vietnamese military officers from the Vietnam People’s Army have graduated from their English language training course sponsored by the UK Ministry of Defense. They each undertook 400 hours of lessons to reach a proper level of English comprehension including reading, speaking, listening, and writing skills through the five-month intensive course at the British Council Vietnam English center in Hanoi, the British Embassy in Hanoi said on its verified Facebook page on Tuesday.

— The Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union on Tuesday announced an English speaking contest under the theme of ‘The new normal post-COVID-19’ for high school and college students across the country, aiming to encourage them to learn English as well as to build self-confidence in order to practice international-standard communication skills, especially in the context of post-epidemic globalization.
