— Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Friday cabled messages of congratulations to U.S. President Donald Trump on the occasion of the United States’ 244th Independence Day on July 4. 

Society

— Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh on Friday requested the People’s Committee of Hanoi to direct functional agencies to focus on remedying consequences and expeditiously investigating the cause of a fire that broke out at a chemical warehouse in Long Bien District on June 30.

— The Central Highlands province of Dak Nong has reported three more patients who have contracted diphtheria, raising the local total number to 15 and the national tally to 26.

— The National Committee on Traffic Safety in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Training on Friday launched a social program with the aim of presenting nearly two million helmets to first graders nationwide in the 2020-21 academic year.

— Officers at Long Binh Border Gate in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang have prevented seven Vietnamese women hailing from the southern province of Tay Ninh from illegally crossing the border to Cambodia on a taxi.

— The management board of the Hanoi – Hai Phong Expressway, in collaboration with the Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security, has handled a case where a female driver drove a truck in reverse for more than one kilometer along the expressway on Friday morning.

— Police in Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City, are investigating a case where a group of people attacked a 25-year-old man in front of a shopping mall on Quang Trung Street over a conflict between the man and a co-worker, inflicting a head injury and causing him to be hospitalized on Friday late afternoon.

Business

— GoViet, the Vietnamese version of the Indonesian on-demand multi-service platform Gojek, on Friday announced that it will unite its app and brand under Gojek to become Gojek Vietnam.

— Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has directed the Ministry of Transport to review and coordinate with relevant ministries and agencies to propose solutions to effectively exploit strengths and opportunities of the domestic shipbuilding industry after an article reported on the June 26, 2020 issue of the Tuoi Tre (Youth) daily newspaper.

World news

— The coronavirus has infected almost 11.2 million people and killed more than 528,300 patients around the world as of Saturday morning, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Health's statistics. Over 6.2 million people have been cleared of the virus.
