— A Brazilian man and five Vietnamese citizens were confirmed positive for COVID-19 on Friday, bringing the patient tally to 1,439, with 1,303 recoveries and 35 virus-related deaths.

— The People’s Committee of Hanoi announced organizing firework displays at Hoan Kiem Lake, Thong Nhat Park, and My Dinh National Stadium at midnight on New Year’s Eve.

— A 63-year-old woman fell to her death from the 16th floor of a building at the Sunview Town apartment complex in Thu Duc District, Ho Chi Minh City at around 3:30 pm on Friday, according to the locals’ report to police officers.

— Police in Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City on Friday afternoon apprehended a 32-year-old man hailing from the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre in relation to the death of a 26-year-old man from southern Tien Giang Province during an alleged BDSM (bondage-discipline, dominance-submission, and sadism-masochism) sexual intercourse.

— More than VND41.66 trillion (US$1.8 billion) is needed for the development of Thu Duc City, the new city in Ho Chi Minh City that is set to be officially established on December 31, in the 2020-25 period, according to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Planning and Architecture’s proposal to the municipal People’s Committee.

— National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines will expand the number of premium economy seats on its flights between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City using Boeing 787, Airbus A350, and Airbus A321neo aircraft starting from January 10, 2021, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

— Coc Coc browser and search engine developed by the Hanoi-based technology company of the same name has attracted 25 million users, becoming the second largest in the Vietnamese market, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

— Saigon-Hanoi Commercial Joint Stock Bank (SHB) has become the only Vietnamese representative to be honored as “Bank of the Year 2020” by The Banker magazine.
