— Police in the northern province of Hai Duong on Wednesday detected and detained 14 trucks carrying around 300 tonnes of goods including footwear, clothing, electronic devices, automotive parts, and more of unknown origin at a checkpoint in Gia Loc District.

— Vietnam on Wednesday reported one new imported case of COVID-19, increasing the country’s tally to 1,521 with 1,369 recoveries and 35 deaths, according to the Ministry of Health.

— Nguyen Xuan Son, director of the Department of Information and Communications of central Thua Thien - Hue Province, on Wednesday presented a plan on collaboration with Vietnam's telecoms group Viettel to build a social network for the locality on the platform of Hue-S, an application for the province’s smart urban services.

— The Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department on Wednesday said they had seized 31.2kg of drugs of various kinds including MDMA, cocaine, ketamine, and marijuana after inspecting 16 parcels imported into Vietnam via post services from Germany, France, America, Canada, Hong Kong, and China.

— Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday discovered and decided to destroy nearly 5.6 tonnes of meat, poultry, and seafood of unknown origin found at a facility in Binh Tan District, whose owner is expected to be subject to a fine of VND90 million (US$3,904).


— Domestic firms shipped over 1.37 billion medical face masks of various types abroad throughout 2020,the Vietnam News Agency reported on Thursday, quoting statistics by the General Department of Vietnam Customs.


— The 2021 Japan Film Week in Ho Chi Minh City will take place from January 16 to 22 at the BHD Thao Dien cinema in District 2 and the BHD Star Bitexco cinema in District 1, featuring 15 movies and animations in order to promote Japanese film culture to Vietnamese audiences.


— Projects to improve facilities serving the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi are underway and scheduled to be completed by September 30, according to the municipal Department of Culture and Sports.
