A Vietnamese man has been arrested after hiring people to kidnap his 'dream girl' and acting as the savior to impress her.
Police in Dong Da District, Hanoi confirmed on Tuesday evening they had apprehended and initiated legal proceedings against Nguyen Van Duc, 24, who hails from north-central Thanh Hoa Province, for holding another person in custody against the law.
Trieu Ong Nhat, 25, Hoang Ong Nhat, 23, and Luong Thanh Mieu, 23, were also captured for the same offense.
Police investigation showed that Duc became acquainted with 19-year-old Nguyen Thi T. in October 2020 and developed feelings for her.
Duc expressed his feelings to T. multiple times but ended up being rejected.
In order to win her heart, the man planned on staging her kidnapping and emerging as her savior.
He then discussed his scheme with Mieu.

Duc asked T. to meet him in front of Phuc Khanh Pagoda in Dong Da District at 7:00 pm on March 4.
After arriving at the location, T. was kidnaped by Mieu, Trieu Ong Nhat, and Hoang Ong Nhat.
The three took her to a house in Dong Anh District, where Mieu contacted Duc and demanded a ransom worth VND500 million (US$21,500).
Duc later came to the house and acted as if he were paying the ransom to rescue the victim.
However, T. reported the abduction to police officers after being freed.
Following a probe, officers were able to identify Mieu, Trieu Ong Nhat, and Hoang Ong Nhat as her kidnappers and arrested them.
The three admitted they had been hired by Duc, and the latter was also nabbed.
