A man who recently tested positive for COVID-19 in the central Vietnamese city of Da Nang had visited many places in Ho Chi Minh City during a public holiday in late April and early May.

The Da Nang Center for Disease Control said on Sunday night that a 25-year-old man named T.V.D. had been confirmed as a COVID-19 patient.

D. is an employee of Monstar - Lab Vietnam Company in Son Tra District.

Epidemiological investigation showed that the man only went to work and stayed home from April 23 to 29.

On April 30, he traveled from Da Nang to Ho Chi Minh City on board flight VN113, which departed at 9:10 am.

In the southern metropolis, D. was picked up by a friend and taken to the Saigonhomes apartment complex in Binh Tan District.

At 3:00 pm the same day, he went to the ICOOL karaoke shop at 38 Nguyen Son Street in Tan Phu District, before taking a stroll on Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street in District 1 at 7:30 pm.

He then had a cup of coffee at Garden Café on Truong Cong Dinh Street in Tan Binh.

From May 1 to 3, D. visited multiple locations in District 7, District 12, Binh Tan District, Binh Thanh District, Phu Nhuan District, Tan Phu District, and Thu Duc City, including the Landmark 81 Building, Starlight Bridge in Phu My Hung New Urban Area, and Galaxy Cinema Tan Binh.

He flew back to Da Nang on flight VN136 at 6:30 pm on May 4, and returned to work on May 5.

On May 7, his older sister living in the same house tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

D. was quarantined and also tested positive on May 8.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control, the man left the metropolis on May 4 and tested positive for COVID-19 on May 8, so it is still unclear whether or not he had been infected with the disease during his trip in the city.

Vietnamese were entitled to take a four-day holiday, from April 30 to May 3, meant to celebrate Reunification Day (April 30) and International Workers’ Day (May 1).

The country has recorded 442 local COVID-19 infections since April 27, including 49 cases in Da Nang.

Ho Chi Minh City has only documented one community-based case during this period.
