Authorities in Binh Phuoc Province, located in southern Vietnam, on Sunday issued a decision to fine a company and 120 people a total amount of VND321 million (US$14,000) for gathering in a large crowd at a local restaurant notwithstanding COVID-19.
The large crowd attended a marketing event organized by Tao Tin Phat Real Estate and Infrastructure Development Co. Ltd., headquartered in Ho Chi Minh City, at the Huong Phu Sa restaurant on Truong Chinh Street in Dong Xoai City, Binh Phuoc on Sunday morning, against the social distancing rules.
Upon receiving a report of the case, functional forces in Dong Xoai City arrived at the restaurant then locked down and inspected the entire facility.
Their inspection showed that the majority of the event attendees were living in Binh Phuoc while some others came from Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, and Tay Ninh.
Eighty-five of them, who failed to present a coronavirus-free certificate upon the functional forces’ request, have tested negative for the pathogen, according to the medical center of Dong Xoai City.
According to the penalty decision, Tao Tin Phat Real Estate and Infrastructure Development Co. Ltd. was fined VND15 million ($654).
One hundred and eight attendees were penalized with VND2 million ($87.2) each for violating the regulations on large gatherings.
Eleven cases, who were found returning to and arriving in Binh Phuoc without performing declaration at disease control checkpoints and presenting a negative test certificate for COVID-19, as well as the Huong Phu Sa restaurant’s owner, were slapped with a fine of VND7.5 million ($327) per person.
