The number of COVID-19 patients discovered in the community has been higher than that detected in isolated areas in Ho Chi Minh City over the past days, according to chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong.
The chairman convened a teleconference with 21 districts and Thu Duc City on Monday to discuss pandemic prevention and control efforts.
During the meeting, leaders of districts and Thu Duc City reported on the pandemic situation in each area, as well as the management and treatment of COVID-19 patients, vaccination progress, and social welfare of local residents.
Chairman Phong stated that the number of COVID-19 patients discovered in the community has exceeded that detected in quarantine facilities and isolated areas in the past days.
The metropolis recorded 3,341 domestic infections on Monday, of which 53 percent were found in the community.
In the past, cases detected in quarantine centers and isolated areas often accounted for 80 percent of daily infections in the city, the official elaborated.
Vaccination plays the most important role in minimizing the spread of COVID-19 in the community, the chairman stressed, asking all districts and Thu Duc City to boost inoculation so that the city can soon return to the new normal.
He also tasked local authorities with aiding all residents in difficult circumstances brought on by the prolonged pandemic.
Ho Chi Minh City has registered 152,627 local infections since the fourth wave hit Vietnam on April 27.
The city has implemented social distancing at various levels since May 31 and recently announced a one-month extension from August 16.
The municipal Center for Disease Control said that the health ministry had allocated 4.4 million vaccine doses to the city, most of which have already been administered to local residents.
Vietnam had documented 283,696 COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday afternoon, with 106,977 recoveries and 6,141 deaths.
The country has logged 279,681 domestic transmissions in 62 out of 63 provinces and cities in the fourth round.
