Army Corps 18 under the Ministry of National Defense has safely operated an emergency flight to carry a patient from Song Tu Tay Island of Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago to the mainland for timely treatment.

The patient is H.N., a 47-year-old fisherman, suffering from severe tetanus in the lower leg and needing emergency aid.

N. had received first aid at a medical station on Song Tu Tay Island, which is located about 600km from the mainland, in the north of the Spratly archipelago.

With the permission from the Ministry of National Defense, Army Corp 18 coordinated with relevant agencies to send an EC – 225 helicopter to the island to pick up the patient at 7:20 pm on Sunday.

The unit brought the patient to Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City at 6:25 am on Monday, before he was transferred to the Military Hospital 175 in a well-timed manner.
