Designated agencies in Ho Chi Minh City are calculating property damage caused by a fire at a well-known bar on a major street in District 3 on Friday afternoon.

The fire broke out at Canalis bar at 147 Hai Ba Trung Street in the downtown district at around 4:15 pm on Friday, according to witnesses.

Some people were seen rushing out of the venue and calling for help as smoke rose high.

Functional forces arrived at the scene shortly after and locked down a section of the busy street to facilitate the fire extinguishing effort.

The fire was put out at 4:55 pm the same day.

The incident did not cause any human casualty but completely destroyed the first floor spanning an area of 350 square meters of the two-story bar, according to Nguoi Lao Dong (Laborer) newspaper.

According to the initial clarification, the blaze may have stemmed from workers’ negligence when welding and cutting metal in the process of dismantling the bar to convert it into an office building.
