The Ministry of Health confirmed 26,487 more COVID-19 patients in Vietnam on Friday, along with 6,075 recoveries and 96 virus-related fatalities.
The newest cases, including 16 imported and 26,471 domestic transmissions, were found in 62 provinces and cities, the health ministry said, clarifying that 8,768 were infected in the community.
Hanoi reported 2,908 of the latest local cases, Nghe An Province 1,501, Hai Duong Province 1,447, Hai Phong City 1,398, Bac Ninh Province 1,390, Nam Dinh Province 1,287, Thai Nguyen Province 976, Da Nang 927, Bac Giang Province 910, Hoa Binh Province 879, Binh Dinh Province 503, Quang Nam Province 492, Quang Ninh Province 477, Tuyen Quang Province 393, Lam Dong Province 340, Khanh Hoa Province 263, Ho Chi Minh City 260, Thua Thien-Hue Province 257, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 133, Binh Duong Province 77, Binh Thuan Province 73, and Can Tho City 15.
Vietnam had detected 26,023 locally-transmitted infections on Thursday.
The country has logged 2,450,024 community transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave broke out on April 27, 2021. Upwards of 2.2 million of them have recovered from COVID-19.
Ho Chi Minh City tops the list with 515,369 patients, followed by Binh Duong Province with 292,925, Hanoi with 162,845, Dong Nai Province with 100,022, Tay Ninh Province with 88,690, Ca Mau Province 57,296, Binh Phuoc Province 48,320, Dong Thap Province with 47,606, Vinh Long Province 44,573, Can Tho City with 44,504, Da Nang with 41,896, Long An Province with 41,828, An Giang Province with 35,645, Tien Giang Province with 35,396, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province with 31,780, and Binh Thuan Province with 29,841.
Vietnam registered only 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.
The health ministry documented 6,075 hospital discharges on Friday, raising the national count to 2,212,669.
The toll has jumped to 38,784, with 96 virus-linked mortalities added today.
Vietnam has recorded 2,457,170 patients in total, including 192 imported and community-based Omicron infections, since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the country in early 2020.
The Omicron cases consist of 92 in Ho Chi Minh City, 27 in Quang Nam Province, 20 in Quang Ninh Province, 14 in Hanoi, 11 in Khanh Hoa Province, eight in Da Nang, six in Hung Yen Province, four in Kien Giang Province, two in Thanh Hoa Province, two in Hai Duong Province, one in Hai Phong City, one in Long An Province, one in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, one in Binh Duong Province, one in Lam Dong Province, and one in Ninh Binh Province.
Healthcare workers have given above 184.8 million vaccine doses, including 704,066 shots on Thursday, since vaccination was rolled out nationwide on March 8, 2021.
Over 79.1 million of the country’s 98 million people have received at least one dose while more than 74.6 million have been jabbed twice.
The number of third doses – including additional primary shots for immunocompromised people, boosters, and third jabs of Cuba’s Abdala vaccine has exceeded 31 million.
