Vietnam health confirms 353,965 new COVID-19 infections

The Ministry of Health logged 353,965 COVID-19 cases across Vietnam on Thursday, alongside 135,683 recoveries and 76 virus-related fatalities.

The newest cases, including three imported and 353,962 domestic transmissions, were detected in all 63 provinces and cities, the health ministry said.

Vinh Phuc and Hai Duong Provinces reported 204,554 of the latest local cases, including 175,853 found on previous days; Hanoi 25,311; Nghe An Province 10,511; Lao Cai Province 9,574; Phu Tho Province 7,867; Bac Ninh Province 5,020; Dak Lak Province 4,592; Binh Duong Province 4,264; Hoa Binh Province 3,844; Ca Mau Province 3,747; Binh Dinh Province 2,955; Quang Ninh Province 2,885; Lam Dong Province 2,861; Hai Phong City 2,844; Ho Chi Minh City 2,369; Binh Phuoc Province 1,987; Vinh Long Province 1,952; Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 1,270; Da Nang 1,086; Quang Nam Province 358; and Can Tho City 133.

Vietnam had documented 267,534 locally-transmitted infections on Wednesday.

The country has detected 7,166,780 community transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave broke out on April 27, 2021. Nearly 3.7 million of them have recovered from COVID-19.

Hanoi tops the list with 916,658 patients, followed by Ho Chi Minh City with 577,598, Binh Duong Province with 353,583, Nghe An Province 315,448, Hai Duong Province 301,156, Bac Ninh Province 247,392, Ca Mau Province 110,490, Tay Ninh Province with 109,015, Hai Phong City 106,936, Dong Nai Province with 104,601, Binh Phuoc Province 93,237, Da Nang with 83,380, and Can Tho City with 47,587.

Vietnam recorded only 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.

The health ministry confirmed 135,683 recovered patients on Thursday, elevating the national count to 3,685,988.

The toll has climbed to 41,683, with 76 pathogen-related deaths added today. 

Vietnam has documented 7,174,423 cases in total since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the country in early 2020.

Health workers have administered more than 201 million vaccine doses, including 349,781 shots on Wednesday, since vaccination was rolled out nationwide on March 8, 2021.

Over 184 million doses have been given to the adult demographic of the country’s 98 million people, including 70,932,002 first shots, 67,850,628 second doses, 14,617,645 additional primary jabs, and 29,130,654 boosters.    

A combined 17,055,300 shots have been injected into children aged 12-17, including 8,751,174 first doses and 8,304,126 second jabs.
